Big Data and Health Care Delivery

In an invited article for IEEE Intelligent Systems, Hopkins inHealth member Suchi Saria outlines the opportunities and challenges that face computational scientists seeking to use big data to improve health care delivery. Saria describes the recent proliferation of health information, from electronic medical records and fitness tracking devices, for example, that allows researchers access to unprecedented amounts of data. She also details the methodologies that need to be developed to make sense of these new data, including methods for handling missing data and for predicting heterogeneity in patient health trajectory.
